From: Date: 2017-11-10 The 2nd international symposium on origami engineering was held on the 6-8 November, 2017 in Hongyuan Lecture Hall, Building 37, Peiyang Park Campus, Tianjin University. Eleven guest speakers were invited from America, UK, German, Australia, Japan, Korea, and China. They are the origami experts in different disciplines such as: art, mathematics, mechanics, mechanism, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and metamaterials. The workshop attracted over 150 domestic researchers from 30 institutions to further develop the knowledge of this new category of scientific research together, namely origami engineering.
The opening speech on the 6th was given by Prof. Wang Shuxin, the vice president of Tianjin University and the director of the Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education, with a brief introduction of Tianjin University and the school of mechanical engineering.
On the other hand, research posters shown by the students from different institutions have impressed the guest experts. The best posters were voted, where the first place was to Ke Liu from Georgia Institute of Technology, second place was to Jeff Lee from Tianjin University, and third place was to Larissa Simoes Novelino from Georgia Institute of Technology. Furthermore, Prof. Yan Chen gratefully acknowledged the support and attendance by the experts and the attendees.
