Welcome Professor Zhong You from the University of Oxford
From: Date: 2014-09-20 Welcome Professor Zhong You from the University of Oxford to visit our laboratory from September to December, 2014. Prof. Zhong You has gained a good reputation at ESA (European Space Agency) for his work on deployable structures. He have won the James Watt Medal (2000) from the Institute of Civil Engineers in London for one of my publications and the Best Paper Award from Advances in Structural Engineering. His work on origami structures has firmly put University of Oxford on the world map of this flourishing area of research.
Prof. Zhong You has been invited to give keynote speeches at various prestigious conferences including an AFOSR organised International Workshop on Origami Based Morphing Structures (Seoul, Korea, August 2011), European Science Foundation’s Morphing Aircraft Materials, Mechanisms and Systems (Lisbon, Portugal, November, 2008), Sino-British/EU Symposium on Development of Mechanisms and Robotics (Beijing, China, August 2010), and US-China Workshop on Bio-inspired Smart Systems (Dalian, China, July 2009). Meanwhile he has been appointed as a guest/visiting professor at three Chinese Universities. Prof. Zhong You has been one of the very small numbers of engineers who initiated systematic research into origami applications in engineering. His work in this area has been a few steps ahead of his international counterparts. He has been inundated by invitations to contribute reviews on his work by leading international journals such as Materials Today and Smart Materials and Structures. Besides, Science has introduced him and his work in their “Profile” Section.
