Dr. Martin Walker from University of Oxford visited MSL

From:                                                  Date: 2019-04-24

From April 12th to April 24h, 2019, Dr. Martin Walker from University of Oxford visited The Motion Structure Laboratory. Dr. Walker is the Mary Ewart Junior Research Fellow at Somerville College and the Department of Engineering Science. He gave us a seminar on " The Flexural Mechanics of Creased Shells ", during which he presented his research on the analytical modeling of creased shells.
He constructed a model describing the mechanics of such structure, and he showed how changes in the crease size affect the flexural behavior of a folded strip. This new approach allowed the large-deflection behavior of thin shells to be analyzed efficiently. During his stay in Tianjin, a series of discussion salons were held.
