Dr. Yang Li from the California Institute of Technology Visited MSL

From:                                                  Date: 2019-07-08

On July 8, 2019, Dr. Yang Li from the California institute of technology visited MSL and conducted a series of academic exchanges. Meanwhile, he gave a presentation titled "Design of Multistable Structures" for all members of our lab.
In his speech, Dr. Yang Li introduced in detail how to simplify the control method, related theory and design of multi-degree-of-freedom mechanism by using multi-steady-state design, and showed the motion feature of the actual model. Dr. Yang Li mentioned the advantages of this design approach, including the formation of reconfigurable surfaces that are easy to drive, the simplicity of configuration, and the ease of manufacture and control with prestressing springs. In terms of the design concept of such multi-stable structures, he also puts forward his own profound insights on the design and manufacture of alternative schemes of low-degree and multi-degree of freedom mechanisms. Finally, he answered the related questions raised by the members of MSL and had an in-depth discussion on the research content of the laboratory.
This report is one of MSL academic activities during the summer. We plan to invite a number of experts and scholars from famous universities to visit MSL. Our aim is to expose our team members to the current frontier of scientific research.
