On July 12, 2019, Prof. Yan Chen invited Prof.Guimin Chen from the school of mechanical engineering of Xi 'an Jiaotong University to give a talk for MSL. After a brief welcome and introduction of his research area in compliant mechanisms and robot, Prof. Chen’gave an exciting presentation titled "Nonlinear Mechanical Properties of Compliant Mechanism." During the talk, he introduced the state-of-art research in the field of compliant mechanism covering the application, mechanical properties as well as the aspect of design philosophy. A passive constant force mechanism design triggered keen interest of the audiences. This unique design for lens grinding enables constant force output in a broad displacement range. This advantageous feature, as quite a few teachers commented, exhibits a great potential in the fruitful applicaton in the field of aerospace and medical devices. Later in his talk, he also shared his experience and ideas about some cutting edge research topics.
        This talk is the second lecture of MSL’s summer academic activities this year. It is worth noting that in addition to such formal academic lectures, we have also prepared several targeted academic exchange activities for our team members, covering multiple research areas such as robotics, metamaterials, aerospace, and solid mechanics.
