New Research Progress from Prof. Yan Chen’s Group in Tianjin University: Design of Programmable Origami Metamaterial with Mechanism-Structure Folding Mode Transition
From: Date: 2020-04-30 Using a combined kinematic and structural analysis, Prof. Yan Chen from Tianjin University and Prof. Zhong You from University of Oxford uncovered that the tubular waterbomb could undergo a mechanism-structure-mechanism mode transition during radial folding, leading to an abrupt change in structural stiffness.
