Congratulations to Dr. Xiao Zhang for the excellent paper award of his paper ‘Thick-panel origami and its hinge-removing method based on the kinematic equivalence of mechanisms’ on the 4th Conference on Deployable Structures
From: Date: 2020-12-29 The 4th Conference on Deployable Structures was held in Harbin from December 25th to 27th, 2020. Dr. Zhang Xiao, the first author, won the excellent paper award on this conference for his paper "Thick-panel origami and its hinge-removing method based on the kinematic equivalence of mechanisms". In this paper, the hinge-removing method is proposed based on the relationship between the Waldron hybrid 6R linkage and Bennett linkages by analysing the characteristics of their corresponding thick-panel origami patterns. Two thick-panel origami patterns with flat-surface unfolded profiles were created. This method is beneficial to realise the application of thick-panel origami in engineering.
