“ One-DOF origami boxes with rigid and flat foldability” won the best student paper silver award on the 7th IFToMM Asian Conference on Mechanism and Machine Science
From: Date: 2022-03-26 The 7th IFToMM Asian Conference on Mechanism and Machine Science was held on Dec 16-18, 2021 in Hanoi, which is a series international conference of IFToMM. The first author Yuanqing Gu, a PHD student from MSL, won the best student paper silver award for his work on “One-DOF origami boxes with rigid and flat foldability”. The work was supervised by prof. Yan Chen.
In this paper, a novel crease pattern of origami box with one-DOF rigid and flat foldability has been proposed based on waterbomb pattern by utilizing vertex-splitting technique and introducing additional creases. Furthermore, more origami box-shaped structures with various geometry and shapes are developed. In addition to folding the origami boxes, the new method proposed in this paper can be readily extended to construct deployable polyhedral structures for wider engineering applications including temporary aerospace residences, small satellites, containers, etc. One-DOF origami boxes with rigid and flat foldability |
