Congratulations to three students from MSL for being awarded the China National Scholarship

From:                                                 Date: 2024-11-28

In the 2024 China National Scholarship selection, Ph.D. students Sibo Chai and Yuehao Zhang, along with master's student Houhua Chen from the Motion Structure Laboratory, earned the awards due to their exceptional research capabilities, outstanding academic achievements, and all-round developments. This recognition is not only a result of their hard work but also a reflection of the collaborative spirit within the laboratory. Congratulations to them!

Sibo Chai

Biography:
Sibo Chai, a Ph.D. student since 2021, focuses his research on curved-crease origami structures. He has published five papers as the first or co-first author in SCI journals, including Advanced Science, JMPS, and IJMS, and holds three applied or authorized invention patents. He has received several awards, such as the “Best Poster Content” award at the 2024 SES Annual Technical Meeting, the “Excellent Poster Award” at the International Symposium on Structures and Materials Inspired by Origami (2023 SAMIO), and the “Top Ten Technology Frontier Poster” award at the 2nd National Metamaterials Conference in China.

Acknowledgments:
Throughout my four-year research journey, the interplay between straight and curved creases in origami has become a reflection of my growth. Whether navigating smooth paths or confronting winding challenges, I have acquired substantial knowledge and profound insights through my explorations. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my supportive colleagues at the Motion Structure Laboratory for their unwavering assistance. May all dreamers find the courage to advance in their own journeys and ultimately attain their goals.

Yuehao Zhang

Biography:
Yuehao Zhang, a Ph.D. student since 2022, focuses his research on the design and analysis of origami and kirigami polyhedral mechanisms. He has published three papers as the first author in SCI journals, including IJMS, MMT, and AMSS. He has attended four academic conferences, including the China Space Conference (CSC 2023) and the China Metamaterials Conference (2nd CMMC). Additionally, he has delivered academic presentations at the International Symposium on Structures and Materials Inspired by Origami (SAMIO 2023) and the IFToMM China International Conference on Mechanism and Machine Science & Engineering (CCMMS 2024).

Acknowledgments:
My professors teach tirelessly, and my friends are helpful. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to every member of the Motion Structure Laboratory! “Without accumulating small steps, one cannot reach a thousand miles.” In the study of origami, kirigami, and mechanisms, every attempt, whether successful or not, contributes to my growth. In the future, I will stay true to my original aspirations, keep my feet on the ground, and embrace new challenges!

Houhua Chen

Biography:
Houhua Chen, a master's student since 2022, specializes in the mechanical properties of origami metamaterials. He is a co-first author of two papers published in the International Journal of Mechanical Sciences and holds a published invention patent. Additionally, he has received both first-class and second-class Graduate Study Scholarship from Tianjin University.

Acknowledgments:
“Peaches and plums do not speak, but they are so attractive that a path is formed below the trees”. I sincerely thank the teachers of the Motion Structure Laboratory! “Carve but give up halfway, even a decayed piece of wood will not break; continue carving without stop, even metal and stone can be carved”. During my time immersed in experiments and simulations, every drop of sweat has become a footprint of growth, and every persistence has illuminated the path to the future. I hope everyone will ride the winds and waves and achieve fruitful results!
