The best entries for the Penguin Science Communication Video Contest were revealed in Shenzhen on 20th September. This contest was jointly launched by Tencent Sustainable Social Value (SSV), Tencent News and China Science Communication, responding to the core values of the newly revised Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Popularization of Science and Technology, exploring new paradigms including short video ecosystems, AI generated content and interdisciplinary co-creation of videos. The contest published 59 research topics proposed by 48 New Cornerstone Foundation scientists, received more than 300 creative proposals, and produced almost 50 co-created science communication videos. In the end, 10 works were shortlisted for final review, and 2 Best-Entry winners were selected by an expert panel.

At the 2025 Xplorer Prize ceremony, the Penguin Science Communication Video Contest’s two winning entries were presented alongside this year’s Xplorer Prizes. The video “Space-Age Cutting-Edge Tech—Let Me Fold That Solar Panel!” co-created by Motion Structure Laboratory and the Pikayou team, won Best Entry in the regular track, while the video “Humans vs AI, who is the true super intelligence?” co-created by Professor Miao Feng of Nanjing University and the Bite-size Science SSR team, won Best Entry in the AI generated content track.

The next day, the 5th New Cornerstone Foundation Xplorer Symposia was held at Southern University of Science and Technology. As an Xplorer Prized funded research group, Motion Structure Laboratory exhibited our representative research outcomes including origami tents to delegates from industry, academia and government, showcasing our latest research in deployable structures, metamaterials and mechanical intelligence robots.
