Many congratulations to Xiaochen Yang on her doctoral dissertation being awarded "3A" thesis on the platform of the Ministry of Education and successfully passing the doctoral dissertation defense

Many congratulations to Xiaochen Yang for passing the doctoral dissertation defence in Tianjin University. Her thesis was awarded the "3A" thesis on the platform of the Ministry of Education, and passed the doctoral dissertation defense on January 5, 2026.

Xiaochen Yang has been studied on the statically balanced compliant shell mechanisms in Motion Structure Laboratory since September 2018. She established a nonlinear large-deformation theoretical model for bellows, and based on the compressive stability of bellows, inversely designed a shell balancer. By pre-stressed assembly, she integrated the two into a statically balanced compliant shell mechanism. She analytically investigated the bending stable-state characteristics of straw-like structures, revealed their shape-preserving behavior and strain energy redistribution mechanism during torsion, and further developed a statically balanced compliant torque coupling, enabling efficient torque transmission under large bending angles. She proposed a triply symmetric Möbius strip structure and established its geometric model. By incorporating humidity-responsive materials, he designed a triply symmetric Möbius actuator, developed theoretical models for its local and global motions, and revealed its shape-maintaining and curvature-driven mechanisms, achieving self-sustained periodic motion under a constant gradient of humidity. Based on the above theoretical and experimental work, she has published three SCI journal papers in prestigious journals including Advanced Functional Materials.
